Overview

A small Scottish city produced two of gaming’s most influential franchises. DMA Design, founded in David Jones’s bedroom in 1988, created Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto from Dundee. When Jones left and DMA became Rockstar North, the studio remained—GTA development continues in Scotland today. Meanwhile, the University of Abertay launched Europe’s first game design degree in 1997, formalising what bedroom coders had built.
